Diese Aquarelle stehen für sich selbst, unabhängig von der spezifischen Situation vor Ort. Du kannst die visuelle Notation wiederum mit eigenen Gefühlen und Erlebnissen verknüpfen. Es gibt auch die Möglichkeit, sich den Aquarell-Protokollen mit Hilfe der Videos, Geräuschen und Texte anzunähern, also zusammen mit den Informationen zu der spezifischen Situation vor Ort. | Protocols

Calendar 2022-03-06

Kirsten Kötter "übersetzt" die verschiedenen Sinneseindrücke, Wahrnehmungen in ihre abstrakten Notationen. Das Visuelle ist dabei sehr wichtig, aber auch Geräusche, Gerüche, das Wetter. Einen besonderen Stellenwert hat der atmosphärische Sound. Was ihn vor allem von den anderen Sinneseindrücken unterscheidet, ist, dass Du ihn an andere Orte und Situationen mitnehmen und anhören kannst und so einen Sinneseindruck aus der "Konserve" hast.

These watercolours are painted at special places in public. They are protocols. They translate the sensual perceptions into abstract pictures. These sensual perceptions are visual, acoustic and haptic. Figurative sketches are also created on site.

Diese Aquarelle sind an besonderen Orten in der Öffentlichkeit gemalt. Es sind Protokolle. Sie setzen die sinnlichen Wahrnehmungen in abstrakte Bilder um. Diese sinnlichen Wahrnehmungen sind visuell, akustisch und haptisch. Auch gegenständliche Skizzen entstehen vor Ort.

I document the development of socio-political themes in everyday life, such as: Islam in Europe, global warming, digital transformation ...

My artistic work is also a contribution to civil society, because it promotes communication between groups. "Kirsten Kötter makes communication a component of her art. Her works show general social themes through the interplay of individual people." (Elvira Mann-Winter, Gallery Rother-Winter).

Meine künstlerische Arbeit ist auch ein zivilgesellschaftlicher Beitrag, weil sie Kommunikation zwischen Gruppen fördert. "Kirsten Kötter macht die Kommunikation zum Bestandteil ihrer Kunst. Method "Participant observation"

I expose myself to the same situation as the others. At the same time I document my observations. I use various documentary methods. In this way I penetrate deeper into the events.

Wie bei der Teilnehmenden Beobachtung aus den Sozialwissenschaften setze ich mich derselben Situation aus wie die anderen. Ich dokumentiere gleichzeitig meine Beobachtungen. Ich nutze verschiedene dokumentarische Methoden. Dadurch dringe ich tiefer in das Geschehen ein.

Artistic work as documentary method – painting research as "door opener"

My public painting sets interaction in motion. Atmospheric sound, photos, video, interviews: If photography and filming is disturbing, I make sketches instead. Later, I digitally assemble my sketches in photos and videos of the empty rooms. I supplement videos with sound recordings and where possible with interviews, photographs and video sequences.

Künstlerische Arbeit als dokumentarische Methode – Malerei-Recherche als "Türöffner"

Mein öffentliches Malen ist ein "Türöffner" und setzt Interaktion in Gang. Atmosphärischer Sound, Fotos, Video, Interviews: Wenn Fotografieren und Filmen stört, montiere ich später meine Skizzen digital in Fotos und Videos der leeren Räume. Videos ergänze ich mit Soundaufnahmen und wo möglich mit Interviews, Fotografien und Videosequenzen.

Project clothing

When researching on location, I often wear a piece of clothing that is labelled with information about place and time. Later on this piece of clothing becomes part of the installation and video.

The "heart" of Kirsten Kötter's artistic work are the "protocols": In nature and city Kirsten Kötter protocols the situation with watercolour, video and sound. The abstract notation transforms the familiar, the ordinariness and shows a new point of view. Abstraction means reduction to the essential. The watercolours abstract the situation on the spot to the light, the colours, to their energy, movement and development.

These watercolours stand for themselves, independently of the specific situation on the spot. You can in turn connect the visual notation with your own feelings and experiences. There is also the possibility of approaching the watercolour protocols with the help of the videos, sounds and texts, that is, together with the information about the specific situation on the spot. | Protocols

Kirsten Kötter "translates" the various sensory impressions, perceptions into her abstract notations. The visual is very important, but also sounds, smells, the weather. Atmospheric sound has a special significance. What distinguishes it above all from the other sensory impressions is that you can take it to other places and situations and listen to it, and thus have a canned sensory impression.
